Public Consultation on National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research 2007 - Chapter 3.4: Human biospecimens

Closed on Thursday, 18 October 2012, 05:00pm (AEST). Submissions are no longer being accepted.

The National Health and Medical Research Council’s Australian Health Ethics Committee (AHEC) has proposed revisions to Chapter 3.4: Human tissue samples and Chapter 3.6: Human stem cells of the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2007) (National Statement). The revised Chapter 3.4: Human biospecimens is to replace both the current Chapter 3.4 and Chapter 3.6.

Previous versions of these revisions underwent both a targeted and public consultation during 2011. Submissions received during the initial public consultation were generally supportive of the approach outlined in the draft chapter, but offered suggestions for revision of the content to maintain the integrity of the National Statement, to increase the clarity of guidance around the importation of human biospecimens and to revise the considerations around commercialisation. Submissions marked as non-confidential received during the initial public consultation, and the initial public consultation draft, are now available under the Consultations' submissions page.
