I'm pleased to see the consideration of the environmetal impact of food choices included in the Dietary Guidelines. As an Accredited Practising Dietitian working in private practice I often have clients ask me about 'sustainable eating' and 'sustainable food choices'. This appendix will be a particularly useful resource that will raise awareness amongst consumers and health professionals about the importance of considering the environment alongside our food choices, which is crucial for all of us to do to ensure a sustainable food supply. Eating 'sustainably' and for health often lead to similar outcomes on food choices and for some the environmental consideration is more of a motivator to make healthy choices than nutrition is.
