Public Consultation on the proposed revisions to the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research Chapters 3.4 & 3.6

Closed on Wednesday, 11 January 2012, 05:00pm (AEDT). Submissions are no longer being accepted.

AHEC has developed proposed revisions to Chapter 3.4: Human tissue samples and Chapter 3.6: Human stem cells of the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2007) (National Statement). Draft revisions to Chapter 3.2: Databanks and paragraphs 3.5.8 and 5.1.22 have also been developed as a consequence of these proposed revisions.

These revisions were initiated after two Australian researchers, from two separate Australian institutions, drew attention to the uncertainty in the application of the National Statement for both researchers and Human Research Ethics Committees (HRECs) regarding whether or not full ethical review is necessary when human stem cells or cell lines to be used in research have been previously established by researchers elsewhere in Australia, or are imported from an overseas source.
