Draft – Guidelines for Managing Risks in Recreational Water

Closed on Friday, 15 December 2006, 12:00am (AEDT). Submissions are no longer being accepted.

The NHMRC is keen to ensure that the Australian community has the best opportunity to participate in developing NHMRC reports. This page lists the closed public consultations.

In 2006, after the Guidelines were released, some inconsistencies in the text were identified. This resulted in the Guidelines being withdrawn from the website whilst the inconsistencies were corrected and a hold was placed on the dissemination of hard copies through the NHMRC’s external distribution channels. The text of the Guidelines was also reviewed to improve the general ease of reading.

This process was completed in September 2006

Background

In 2006, after the Guidelines were released, some inconsistencies in the text were identified. This resulted in the Guidelines being withdrawn from the website whilst the inconsistencies were corrected and a hold was placed on the dissemination of hard copies through the NHMRC’s external distribution channels. The text of the Guidelines was also reviewed to improve the general ease of reading. This process was completed in September 2006.

The Guidelines aim to ensure that recreational water environments are managed as safely as possible, and to provide protection from threats posed by the use of coastal, estuarine and fresh waters.  These threats may include natural hazards such as surf, rip currents and aquatic organisms, as well as those with an artificial aspect, such as discharges of wastewater.

Whilst many of the changes were typographical, and therefore minor, four changes were more substantial.  The attached schedule of amendments describes the changes.
