NHMRC Draft Statement and Resource for Consumers: Direct-to-Consumer Genetic Testing

Closed on Tuesday, 3 June 2014, 05:00pm (AEDT). Submissions are no longer being accepted.

The NHMRC is currently seeking feedback on two draft documents:

  • Direct-to-consumer genetic testing: A statement from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC)
  • Understanding direct-to-consumer genetic DNA testing – an information resource for consumers

The draft NHMRC Statement, developed by NHMRC’s Human Genetics Advisory Committee (HGAC), is aimed at informing health professionals and policy makers on the issues associated with genetic testing.  The Resource for Consumers provides information to assist the public understand genetic testing offered by organisations marketing directly to the consumer (known as direct to consumer, or DTC, genetic tests), and the risks of purchasing such tests.

You are invited to make a submission to NHMRC by answering the questions listed in the online submission form.

NHMRC will only give consideration to submissions that address the public consultation questions.

All submissions must be made through this online public consultation portal. If this is not possible, please contact the NHMRC Project Officer to make alternative arrangements.
