NHMRC is seeking feedback on the draft Principles and guidelines for the care and use of non-human primates for scientific purposes.
About the consultation
NHMRC is revising its Policy on the care and use of non-human primates for scientific purposes (2003). The proposed revisions are presented in the draft Principles and guidelines for the care and use of non-human primates for scientific purposes (the draft Guidelines). The draft Guidelines are intended to:
- outline basic principles and best practice guidance for the care and use of non-human primates for scientific purposes to assist investigators, teachers and animal carers
- assist institutional animal ethics committees in considering applications for the use of non-human primates for scientific purposes.
Background information about this review and the development of the draft Guidelines is available from NHMRC’s website.
Scope of the public consultation
Comments are invited on the content of the draft Guidelines. NHMRC is particularly interested in your views on the need for notification to NHMRC of specified activities involving the care and use of non-human primates.
The Department of Agriculture and the Department of Environment are responsible for the regulation of the importation of non-human primates, which is outside the scope of this review.
How to make a submission
All submissions must be made through this online public consultation portal. If this is not possible, please contact the NHMRC Project Officer to make alternative arrangements (firstname.lastname@example.org).
When making a submission, you are requested to use the online public consultation portal to:
- identify the section/paragraph of the draft Guidelines
- provide your comments regarding that section/paragraph.
