Public Consultation on the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines: Chemical FactSheets, Boil Water Advisory Notice

The Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Xylenes (BTEX) chemicals fact sheets were last revised in 1996. BTEX chemicals are used in the coal seam gas industry as lubricants in the hydraulic fracturing process, a method used for extracting natural gas.

The Water Quality Advisory Committee reviewed the recent literature and proposes no changes to the health guideline values for these chemicals based on current evidence.

You are invited under paragraph 13(1) (b) of the National Health and Medical Research Act (1992) to make a submission to the NHMRC about the draft document.
